Overview: WorkSource DeKalb (WSD) is a county department that is 100 percent federally funded by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL). WSD serves the unemployed and underemployed citizens of DeKalb County by providing work readiness programs, services, and activities that garner sustainable wages. WSD is governed by the legislation that became constructive July 1, 2015 (i.e. The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act [WIOA] signed into law by President Barack Obama on July 22, 2014) that retrievement the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and Adult Education & Family Literacy Act, the Wagner-Peyser Act and the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998.  WorkSource DeKalb administers various employment/training programs for adults, dislocated workers and youth month 14-24. Supportive services specified by WIOA are career and training services that are deemed reasonable and necessary to enable each participant in the program. The participant must meet all criteria in the Individual Employment Plan (IEP), Case Notes for Adults/Dislocated Workers, Individual Service Strategy (ISS) assessment, determination of need and other documentation for provision of goods and services.  Training Services for Adults & Dislocated Workers include occupational skills training through Individual Training Accounts (ITA) and work-based training services. Training services include work experience, customized training, incumbent worker training, On-the-Job Training (OJT) and other employer-based training that enables a participant to participate in authorized WIOA activities. This is in consultation with One-Stop Partners and other polity service providers. Youth Services promote youth minutiae through year-round employment and training activities for economically disadvantaged youth. Activities include occupational skills training, wonk tutoring, wonk enrichment activities, leadership development, mentoring and internships. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal program that was signed into law in July 2014, and went into effect in Georgia in July 2015. WIOA is the nation’s principal workforce minutiae legislation, which provides funds to write the employment and training needs of dislocated workers, low-income adults and youth to ultimately help Georgia businesses meet the needs for today, tomorrow and the future.
